in Spinola and Balluta bays and in Sliema harbour |
January started with pleasant weather then second Sunday and Monday brought heavy rains and strong cold winds. The month
contiued like this - some nice days and some awful days - heavy rain , strong winds and cold. It was actually the wettest
January for 85 years! However it was slightly warmer than average for January
|
January startred as December with warm weather, then by second weekend it turned cold and wet. And then contined as a
mixture of cold winds
and rain and fine days. The month seemed cold but apparantly had less rain and was warmer than the average!!
|
February
|
we have had a mix of rain, wind and sunny intervals and its seemed very cold at times. In fact one day
the wind chill factor made the temperature -1.5 degrees. Conversely we have had lunch on the roof of our new house and
the last wekend was quite warm
|
Last years description seems very apt - except it feels colder and we have not had lunch on the roof! Day time
temperatures only reaching low teens and night temperatures below 10. In fact February was colder and wetter than the 30
year average
|
The 1st was a fine warm day followed by a thunderstorm in the evening! February then had a mixture of warm and cool days
but not a lot of rain. and the last weekend was warm and sunny filling the picnic site, bars and cafes with outside tables
and there were even plenty of sunbathers on the sands at St Georges Bay
|
March
|
March started as February had been - a mixture. By the middle of the month it had become quite pleasant when not windy.
The month continued as a
mix of good and fair weather
| The 2nd and 3rd were
warm and sunny and we had lunch on the roof. Then we had several days that were very wet and very windy! This was followed
by drier but still windy
weather. The last day of March brought what sounded and looked like a gale at 4am , then in the afternoon was a glorious

|
April 1st was very wet. after that April was pleasantly warm and mostly dry. Its very pleasant sitting on our roof, and
on 26th we had our first BBQ
of the year. Surprisingly whilst this April was one of the dryest on record it was also one of the cloudiest Aprils!
|
The first half of April has brought a mixture of glorious spring days and cold wet days! the end of the month was warm and
dry.
|
By the middle of the month the temperatures are warming nicely and the roof is in regular use during daylight. The wind
can be cool and its been hazy some mornings but spring is definately in the air
|
May
|
May continued as April ended - sunny and warm for the first week. Then we got strong winds, overcast skies and some rain

|
Very hot, very sunny and very humid for the first 2 weeks then on 14th we had cloud and rain and still very humid.
It remained hot and humid and on 29th we had a tropical storm The month turned out hotter than the average August

above the norm both in the day and overnight, no rain was recorded and on average there were 11.5 hours a day of
sunshine
|
September
|
The month started hot and very humid. In the eary morning of the 3rd there was a violent thunder storm and heavy rain -
the first since 5th June. then short bursts of heavy rain on 14th and 15th. The rest of the month is then a mixture of
sun, cloud, showers and heavy rain. We have eaten our evening food on the roof every evening since May but now in the

25th and the evening of the 27th. When it wasnt raining we had a mixture of sun and cloud |
October
|
Last years description seems apt again. "Warm but wet" sum it up and like last year the wet bits are very wet. The
official story is that it was the coolest October for 30 years, humidity was higher than the norm, sun and rain were both
less than average, and there were 7 days when there was thunder - 2 more than the average October
|
this October started pleasant but gradually the cloud cover grew more persistant. Overall the month was cooler but dryer
than the average, with just 3 stormy days
|
The first week was very pleasant then early on the 11th we had a huge storm and the next two days are overcast and very
muggy. More heavy rainstorms on 13th, 15th, 18th, 19th and 23rd. Then the 25th brought Malta's wettest day since 1929
and spookily that was also 25 October. there was 102mm of rain on the day. The rainfall for the month was 230mm against
the months average of 90mm. October was wetter, windier and cooler than the norm. And there were thuderstorms on 10 days.
A seriously horrible month weatherwise.
|
November
|
the month starts with a very nice weekend, then continues as October. The 9th and 10th saw very heavy rains, thunder
and lightning , and the month cotinues with a mix of warmish sun and heavy rain. We have even managed lunch on the roof
on a few days. And the official version was that the month was slightly warmer and drier than the norm!
But the 9 days when there were thunderstorms were more than the norm
|
The month seemed warmer and drier than previous years
|
The month is a huge improvement on October - little wind or rain and a good amount of warm sun, but out of the sun it can
be cool and its getting dark earlier
|
December
|
The month is drier than November but colder. The Christmas period has some nice weather but the morning of the 25th saw a
very heavy storm that produced a layer of deep drifting hail stones carpetting Valetta - a white christmas in Malta!
| By half way we had most types of weather, sun, rain, cloud and wind and its feeling cold unless the sky
is clear. then a shift in the wind - to a light southerly - produced unseasonally warm weather in the run up to christmas
and we even sat outside with short sleeves on christmas day
|
December started as November finished i.e. "little wind or rain and a good amount of warm sun, but out of the sun it can
be cool" but by mid month its wetter and colder. And thats the way it stayed. But for the month as a whole it was much
drier (less than a third of the norm),warmer ( by half a degree) and sunnier than the average December.
